William Charles Fred "Bud" Gottsch worked as a carpenter his entire life. When it came to wood there wasn't anything he could not build. He was a loving father and husband. William enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Rhode Island. During his tour of duty he slipped on ice and severely injured his knee. He was medically discharged, but was plagued with sever pain and wore a leg brace for many years.
William married Lois Jean Burgett on September 11, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. They had six children together and he would sometimes work two jobs to support his family. William and Lois were divorced in 1967 after the death of two sons, Timothy and James, in infancy.
William married his second wife, Adele McGarvey on April 17, 1971. They had one child together, Joseph Paul Gottsch. Because of Adele's mental health, they were divorced in 1972.
On March 25, 1977 William married his third wife, Lois Lambertson. In 1978 William and Lois moved to LeHigh Acres, Florida. After a short period Lois returned to Nebraska to be near her children, and they were divorced. William or "Bud" as he was called remained in Florida, where he lived until his death from a massive heart attack while mowing his lawn. He would make frequent trips to Phoenix and Omaha to visit his son, daughters and many friends.
William married three times. He first married Lois Jean Burgett in Omaha, Nebraska on September 11, 1943. Lois was born April 15, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. Lois was the daughter of Ralph David Burgett and Effie Viola Osborne. Lois died in February 1976 from cancer in Omaha, Nebraska at 47 years of age. Her body was interred February 1976 in Omaha, Nebraska, Evergreen Cemetery.
He then married Adele McGarvey on April 17, 1971. Adele died in Washington State and interred there. He then married Lois Lambertson on March 25, 1977. Lois died in Omaha, Nebraska and is interred there.

Elaine Marie (Gottsch) Hollister was born on September 4, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska to Luis and Marie (Christensen) Gottsch. She grew up on the family farm near Elk City and attended grade school in Elk City before going to Valley for High School. Elaine was active in 4-H and had a talent for drawing and painting.
Elaine married Millay Hollister on November 22, 1939 at her grandfather's home in Elk City, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: Allen and Connie. Elaine and Millay raised their children on the Hollister family farm, then in Elkhorn when they moved in 1964. Elaine was first and foremost a wife and mother and in later years she worked at the school cafeteria and in the office at Boys Town. She enjoyed going to dances and on family fishing trips but most of all she enjoyed the companionship of her 60 plus friends and their regular coffee get-togethers. Elaine and Millay spent many hours driving the countryside enjoying the sights.
During the last 2 ˝ years, Elaine has lived near her daughter in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Elaine passed away on January 27, 2006 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Luis and Marie, her husband Millay and daughter-in-law Karen. Elaine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie and Greg Savoy of Wahpeton, ND; son Allen of La Jolla, CA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Clarence Clover of Waterloo, NE; and a special remembrance of her 60 plus Friday morning coffee club. Opal Stork, 79, of Blair died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Wichita, Kan. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Campbell - Aman Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Opal Mylet Gottsch was born March 12, 1919, at Kennard to Arthur Gottsch Sr. and Mary ( Huber ) Gottsch. She graduated from Kennard High School. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Gilbert Stork in Bennington. They lived in rural Blair. She moved to Blair in 1996 after the death of Mr. Stork in November of 1995. She was a longtime employee of Western Electric and Control Data. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four sons, Gordon Stork and Greg Stork of Omaha, Gary Stork of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gerald Stork of Westminster, Colo.; two daughters, Vanessa Brown of Arlington and Angela Hensen of El Dorado, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 4 great - grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Christopherson of Omaha and Betty Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five brothers, Arthur Gottsch, Jr., of Mead, Pat, Bob, Sr., Virgil and Lyle Gottsch, all of Elkhorn; one sister - in - law, Norma Jean Stork of Blair; and one brother - in - law, Wilfred Stork of Kingman, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, and her parents. Campbell - Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.

Robert married Lois Ruff on April 19, 1952 in Papillion, Nebraska. Lois was born, May 12, 1930.
Robert and Lois worked together in raising their four children and building a Cattle Feeding and Farming Company. Starting with nothing but a lot of hard work and sweat, the feeding company known as, "Gottsch Feeding Corporation" grew to be the 12 largest feeding company in the country and the largest in the state of Nebraska. Bob was known to many of the people in the industry of cattle feeding as having an uncanny ability to see the future. He always had fat cattle available when no one else did and always seemed to know when not to have to many because the market was going to be weak. All of his sons stayed with him and now run the feeding business and several new entities that have been started over the years. Both Robert and Lois still live in the Elkhorn area.
Funeral Obituary July 3, 2002
After High School Bob joined the Army in 1945 and spent time in Breverhaven, Germany with the 382nd Military Police Battalion. Bob was present at the Nuremberg trials. His Battalion allowed for recreation time for the soldiers and Bob participated in basketball (leading scorer), baseball and football. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in the military police on July 6, 1948. After returning home from the service, Bob attended the University of Nebraska for one semester, where he earned a letter in Basketball as a freshman. He then decided it was time to go to work. He went into business with his brother Pat in Gottsch Brothers Oil and Feed. After 4 years, he leased a feed yard southwest of Elkhorn and after 2 years he purchased the feed yard.
Bob married Lois Anne Ruff on April 19, 1952 in Papillion, Nebraska and to this union four sons were born: Robett Louis, William Leon, Brett Arthur and Barry Richard. Bob and Lois raised their four boys in Elkhorn while they were building their business into what it is today. During the time Bob and Lois were raising their four boys, they had another young man join the family - Larry Christiansen moved in with them in 1957 when he was 9 years old and became another son. A nephew, Mike Gottsch moved in with the family in 1974 and lived and worked with the family through 1978.
Bob loved baseball, football, basketball, tennis and golf. His favorite food was apple pie. He loved having fun, working and anything competitive. Bob has a special love and tenderness for his grandchildren.
Bob passed away on Friday June 28, 2002 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was preceded in death by his parants and one sister. Bob is survived by Lois Gottsch of Elkhorn, his sons and daughters-in-law Robert L. and Cindy of Hastings, Nebraska, William and Carrie of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brett and Stacy of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Berry of Gretna, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Arthur and Anita of Mead, Nebraksa, Pat and Charlotte of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Virgil and Judy of Elkhornm Nebraska and Barney and Carrie of Elkhorn, Nebraska; sisters and brother-in-law Rosemary Christopherson of Omaha, Nebraska and Betty and Bill Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Robert Glenn Gottsch was born on September 10, 1926 in Bennington, Nebraska to Arthur and Mary (Huber) Gottsch. Bob grew up with his four brothers and three sisters on a farm south of Kennard, Nebraska. The family moved from Kennard to Irvington, Nebraska and Bob finished grade school at Wranch School. The Gottsch's then moved to Hoe Hill near Elkhorn with all of their family possessions on a hayrack. As a young man, Bob enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Bob graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1944.

Charles and Deloris Gottsch of Loveland, Colo., celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 19, 2005. A luncheon was held on Sunday, March 20, for family and friends.
The former Deloris Gray and Charles Gottsch were married on Saturday, March 19, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, Neb. Both graduated from Bennington High School: Charles in 1952, and Deloris in 1954. Charles attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., from 1952 to 1954.
The couple have one son, Steven Gottsch of Fort Collins, Colo.
Charles retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a district traffic agent after 35 years and currently works part-time for Ace Hardware in Loveland.

Ex-Norfolkan dies at age 52, Services are pending for Max Witt of Littleton, Colo., who died Saturday of a massive heart attack. Witt was participating in a bike ride with Kiwanians from Littleton to Denver when he was stricken. Witt, 52 was a graduate of Norfolk High School.
Rites planned in Colorado for Max Witt 53. Nov. 1, 1990 Service will be conducted Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Littleton, Colo., for a former Norfolkan, Max Witt, 53. He died of a heart attack Oct. 27 while on a Littleton Denver bicycle ride with the Littleton Kiwanis Club. Witt, who was president of Century Graphics Printing Company in Littleton, was a 1955 graduate of Norfolk High School and attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He was president of the Littleton Kiwanis Club. He was in Norfolk over the Labor Day weekend to attend his high school class reunion. His wife is the former Sharon Schreiner, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ora Schreiner of Perry Park, Colo., formerly of Norfolk. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Doug, Tim, Heidi, Brad, and Max II, all of Littleton, Colo,; three granddaughters; and his parents, Harry and Carolyn Witt of Randolph, formerly of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by one sister, Janelle.

Robert Clark "Bob" Gottsch
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Robert "Bob" Clark Gottsch, age 63, was born April 14, 1941 near Dacoma, Oklahoma to Lester and Dorothy (Mizar) Gottsch. He passed away Friday morning following a courageous battle with lung cancer at his home in rural Newcastle, Wyoming. Bob was raised on his grandfather's homestead farm close to Dacoma, Oklahoma and graduated from Dacoma High School in 1959.
On October 12, 1962 he married Claudia Prouty Coleman in Dacoma. They moved to Newcastle, Wyoming in the summer of 1968 where they have made their home since. He worked in the timber industry when they first moved to Newcastle before working at the Weston County COOP. He then went to work in the oil field beginning with Osage Hot Oil Company and then moving on to help build Western Production Company which is now Black Hills Exploration and Production.
Upon retiring in the early 90's from the oil field due to ill health, he tried his hand at ranching where he got to reconnect with his love of working the land and his cattle. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and trap shooting for several years. His love was in building all kinds of things with his machining equipment including boats and guns from scratch for his sons and his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia, Newcastle, WY; mother, Dorothy Egner, Bennett, CO; four sons: Mark (Mischelle), Littleton, CO; Marty (Melanie), Littleton, CO; Bob II (Stacie), Casper, WY; and Henry (Shelly), Seattle, WA; five grandchildren: Kristie, Greg, and Andrew Gottsch, Littleton, CO; Tawney Saunders, Littleton, CO; and William Gottsch, Casper, WY; a sister Ann (Monte) Simons, Bennett, CO and their family. He is also survived by his cousin Eugene Mahoney and his family, Newcastle, WY. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Lester; and one son Derrell, in 1981.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 14, at the Worden Funeral Chapel in Newcastle, WY. Services will be Monday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Worden Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norm Brotzman officiating. A memorial has been established to the 4-H Shooting Sports, or contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Clinton Alvan Wilt was born June 6, 1925 at Dacoma, Oklahoma, son of Henry and Marguerite (Mantz) Wilt. He graduated from Enid High School.
On October 20, 1943, he was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served his country during World War II as a Private First Class, being stationed in the South Pacific area from January to August in 1944. On June 15, 1944 he was wounded During the Battle of Saipan, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was Honorably Discharged on February 7, 1945 at Norman, Oklahoma.
On December 28, 1955, Clinton was united in marriage with Helen Butz at Anthony, Kansas. To this union twins were born: David and Diane.
After being in the US Marines and getting married, Clinton furthered his education at Kansas State Teacher's College at Pittsburg, graduating in 1960 with a Masters Degree. He continued his education even further, being just eight hours shy of a PHD.
Clinton taught math, chemistry and physics at the Anthony and Caldwell schools, prior to teaching at Manchester. He was the Principal of Manchester Grade School the year the school was closed. After that, he began working as an electrician and plumber until he retired fully.
Clinton was a member of the First Christian Church of Anthony, the American Legion, and the DAV. On March 14, 2008, Clinton passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center in Anthony, Kansas at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his father. Henry Wilt; his mother, Marguerite Wilt Cline; and his daughter, Diane Pape.
Clinton will be deeply missed by his wife, Helen of the home in Anthony; his son. Dr. David Wilt and wife Elizabeth of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Garrett Wilt, Alyssa Wilt, Jessica (Pape) Kinzer and husband John, and Joshua Pape and wife Jessica; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

Most of this information came from family members.
Fritz Misfeldt came to the United States in 1861 as a very young man, settling in Scott County, Iowa. The countryside is very much like the area in Germany, so you will find many people from Germany settling first in Scott County.
Fritz an Bertha Horst were married in Scott County and three of their children were born there. They came to Nebraska, and for a short time lived in Sarpy County, the second county south of Washington County. Anna was born in Nebraska, about 1875 and two years later a daughter, Margaretha, was born, but she only lived a couple of weeks. She is buried in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. A year later Otto was born, on Christmas Day. I would guess that Bertha developed pneumonia, as she died just six weeks after Otto was born.
While Bertha was sick and probably shortly after, Otto was wet nursed by a Mrs. Soll, as she just had a baby too. Fritz found himself alone to raise 5 children, the oldest Henry (my grandfather) age 11 down to baby Otto, age 6 weeks. It must have been a very hard job. You can see by the 1880 Census, John was listed as a boarder at the the Henry Puls home. He probably helped with chores also.
Fritz chose to let Otto be raised (or adopted) by the Asmus Asmussen family, they had no other children. I'm sure things were still hard and so Anna was to live with the Claus Schlopkohl family, again maybe to help out with chores or possibly there was a family connection, as the Soll name appears again. It was also said that Anna and Fritz's second wife, Elizabeth did not get along. I do not know who fathered Anna's first baby, William, but about a year later, she and Julius were married. They moved to the Creighton, Nebraska area and I don't really know much more about the family. Henry married Adele Gottsch, had one son, Charles, lost a baby girl and then Adele died in childbirth. He later married Margaret Gottsch, Adele's sister. They lived west of Washington, Nebraska and had eight children. John Misfeldt married Tina Petersen, lived just north of Bennington, but died as a young man. They had no children. Metha Misfeldt married Henry Arp. They lived north of Washington, Nebraska. They had six children. Otto married and had one son, they lived in the Fort Calhoun area.
Most of the family were farmers and stayed in this general area of Nebraska. Quite a few of the children are buried in the German Cemetery, north of Bennington. Fritz and Elizabeth are buried in the Kennard, Nebraska Cemetery.

Tragedy stalked Omaha-area roads and highways Monday night, claiming six lives between 7 p.m. and early Tuesday morning.
Four persons, including a Millard assistant principal and a teacher, died in a head-on crash about a half-mile east of Ashland, Neb. about 7 p.m. Monday.
The two-car crash near Ashland claimed three of four Millard area people who had been close fiends and were en route to a University of Nebraska-Lincoln basketball game. The car in which they were riding was involved in a crash on Highway 6 with one driven by Loran Estabrooks of near Ashland.
The dead include Estabrooks, 70, a retired salesman who lived in a subdivision east of Ashland; Lyle Buell, 46, of 939 Eldorado Drive, assistant principal at Millard's Level 1 High School; Louis Jipp, 47 of 1446 S. 167th St., an engineer at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., and his wife, Lois, 44, a Millard elementary school teacher. Buell's wife, Sue, 44 remained in critical condition Tuesday morning at an Omaha hospital.

NEWPORT NEWS - Howard Gordon Maahs, 67, died July 2, 2006 at 5 p.m. surrounded by his family at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond after a nine-year battle against an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif. on May 16, 1939, Dr. Maahs was the son of the late Willis George Maahs and Katherine Louise Melvin Maahs. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Carol Maahs. He is survived by his wife, Dola Jean Haracivet Young Maahs; his brother, Robert Willis Maahs of Hortonville, Wis. and four children, Kendra Louise Lacy and her husband, Chris Lacy of Woodbridge, Va., Jennifer Paige Zettler and her husband, Chris Zettler of Oakton, Va., Cynthia Jean Morath and her husband, Ray Morath of Reston, Va., and Gordon Lewis Maahs of Washington, D.C., and by his two step-daughters, D. Leslie Young of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Kelly Elizabeth Young of Alexandria, Va. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Loretta Lacy, Susanna Lacy and Annabel Lacy; plus many cousins, nieces and very dear friends. He was above all a devoted family man, kind and caring of others, to family and non-family alike.
He was raised in Los Angeles until, at age 16, he entered Stanford University where he received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. Thereafter he earned his Ph.D., also in Chemical Engineering, from the University of Washington, Seattle, Wash., where he met and married his first wife, Carol Larson, mother of his five children. In 1964, he relocated to the Peninsula to take a position as a research engineer with NASA-Langley Research Center. After 35 years with NASA, he retired in 1999 as a branch head for advanced materials development.
He attended Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church and various other churches in his continual search for religious understanding and spiritual fulfillment. Special interests included religious thought and natural philosophy, fine art, music (self-taught in five instruments), travel, skiing and genealogy. His most recent passion was that of documenting the lives and times of all his European ancestors before and after they immigrated to America.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday, July 5 at Altmeyer Funeral Home in Denbigh. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Thursday, July 6 at the same location. Burial will be at Peninsula Memorial Park directly following the service. The family extends thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Medical College of Virginia for their compassionate and superior service. Special thanks to those in the ICU and the Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or other organizations that aid in the search for a cure for prostate cancer.
