Services for Eugene Edward "Gene" Ruefer, Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home where a prayer service will be offered at 7 p.m.
Mr. Ruefer died on Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, from apparent heart failure following a brief illness. Eugene Edward Ruefer was born on Sept. 23, 1927, in rural Scott County, Iowa, a son of Edward and Viola (Horst) Ruefer. He graduated from the former Buffalo High School, Buffalo, Iowa. He married Joanne M. Miller on Aug. 4, 1956, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Gene retired in 1981 after 29 years of service for the S.J. Smith Welding Supply Co., Davenport. During the summers, for 25 years, until 1981, he ran Gene's Dairy Bar at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. In earlier years he was a Cub Scout Leader. He also enjoyed tinkering with his antique tractor.
Memorials may be made to a memorial fund established in Gene 's name. Survivors include his wife, Joanne; his daughters and sons-in-la w, Elizabeth A. Ruefer-Nease and Vernon, Rock Falls, Ill., and Mary J. and Gustav Ruhnke, Davenport; his sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Jean Ruefer, Davenport, and Mark A. Ruefer, San Diego; 10 grandchildren; and his brothers, Keith Ruefer and Vaughn Ruefer, both of Davenport.

Mr. Lyle H. Goettsch, 77, DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, December 21, 2005 at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Lyle Henry Goettsch was born November 22, 1928 at rural Calamus, Iowa, the son of the late Walter and Velma (Mueller) Goettsch. Lyle graduated from Calamus High School in 1946. He married Mary Kathleen "Kay" Green, August 26, 1949. The couple farmed and raised cattle at rural Calamus, and owned the Phillips 66 Station at Calamus for 28 years. Lyle drove school bus for 49 years for Calamus Schools. His wife Kay preceded him in death July 12, 1987. He married Dorothy Determan Dolan December 30, 1988.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. Lyle loved his family dearly, and enjoyed dancing and gathering with his card club.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Marsha (Mark) Witte, DeWitt; Debra (Rocky) Everly, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Terri (David) Bousselot, Calamus; son, Lonny (Leisha) Goettsch, Calamus; daughter-in-law, Lana Goettsch, Calamus; grandchildren, Ann (Aaron) LaPoint, Ellen Witte, Bo Everly, Rachel Bousselot, Hannah Bousselot, Leah Goettsch, Lance Goettsch, Logan Goettsch, Landon Goettsch, Amanda Goettsch and Erin Goettsch; step-daughters, Mary Thiel, Jane Moore, Sue (Mark) Mahieu, Lori Frymark, Teresa (Ed) Schneckloth; step-daughter-in-law, Gayle Dolan.
In addition to his wife, Kay and parents, Lyle was preceded in death by a son, Leonard on January 1st of this year and a step-son, Kevin Dolan.

Mom, Theodora Goettsch Risch told us that Grandma Goettsch (Eliza Barber) had two children John Wesley McCauly and Bertha Elizabeth from a previous marriage. The family had lived in Port Byron. Grandma brought her two children and took a job as housekeeper for Wilhelm and Ernest Goettsch. Wilhelm and Ernest Goettsch were two bachelors living together on a small farm in Scott County. Eventually Wilhelm Goettsch married my grandmother, Eliza Barber McCauly. Then from that union Theodora.
As we grew up, we attended Goettsch family reunions/picnics from the Henry Goettsch family. We used to visit Carl and Wilma Marxen especially on birthdays. They were very generous with us kids giving us money for our birthdays. Wilma was a great cook. She would make a meringue torte with vanilla pudding in the center of the cake for those birthday gatherings. They lived in a beautiful farm house with a lovely staircase and hard wood floors on Utica Ridge Road in Scott County, Iowa. I loved going there. Even had an upstairs bathroom which we thought was the ritz! Will try scanning some of those old pictures that have Grandpa Wilhelm, Ernest Goettsch, Wilma and Carl Marxen . Also some pictures of the Frieda Marxen Glunz family which were decendants of Ann Goettsch. I am thinking that perhaps you found this information somewhere. This information is all very interesting to me as I knew these people during my young years. I now understand how family members fit in the family line. Many have passed on and the rest I have lost touch with over the years. Also, was very interesting to learn that Granddad Wilhelm's middle name was Theodor. I always thought my mother's name, Theodora (nickname Ted) was a little unusual. I never spoke that to mom or grandma. Now can see where it came from. I don't have info on Ernest Goettsch. I think he may have stayed living with Grandpa, Wilhelm and Grandma Eliza after their marriage. He is in some of the photos found in Mom's things. I remember Grandma and Mom speaking of "Uncle Ernest" but I never knew him.
This has nothing to do with Goettsch lineage but my uncle John McCauly from Grandmother's first marriage must have thought a lot of mom as he named his first born "Ted". They lived out East in New Jersey. Life brings strange twists. My mother -in-law's name was Dorothea.

Note: William Charles Fred "Bud" Gottsch worked as a carpenter his entire life. When it came to wood there wasn't anything he could not build. He was a loving father and husband. William enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Rhode Island. During his tour of duty he slipped on ice and severely injured his knee. He was medically discharged, but was plagued with sever pain and wore a leg brace for many years.
William married Lois Jean Burgett on September 11, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. They had six children together and he would sometimes work two jobs to support his family. William and Lois were divorced in 1967 after the death of two sons, Timothy and James, in infancy.
William married his second wife, Adele Rinehart McGarvey on April 17, 1971. They had one child together, Joseph Paul Gottsch. They were divorced in 1972.
On March 25, 1977 William married his third wife, Lois Lambertson. In 1978 William and Lois moved to LeHigh Acres, Florida. After a short period Lois returned to Nebraska to be near her children, and they were divorced. William or "Bud" as he was called remained in Florida, where he lived until his death from a massive heart attack while mowing his lawn. He would make frequent trips to Phoenix and Omaha to visit his son, daughters and many friends.
William Charles Fred married three times. William Charles Fred first married Lois Jean Burgett on September 11, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. Lois was born April 15, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. Lois was the daughter of Ralph David Burgett and Effie Viola Osborne. Lois died in February 5, 1976 from cancer in Omaha, Nebraska at 47 years of age. Her body was interred February 9, 1976 in Omaha, Nebraska, Evergreen Cemetery.
William Charles Fred then married Adele Rinehart McGarvey on April 17, 1971 in Omaha, Nebraska. William Charles Fred then married Lois Lambertson on March 25, 1977. Lois died in Omaha, Nebraska and is interred there.

Elaine Marie (Gottsch) Hollister was born on September 4, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska to Luis and Marie (Christensen) Gottsch. She grew up on the family farm near Elk City and attended grade school in Elk City before going to Valley for High School. Elaine was active in 4-H and had a talent for drawing and painting.
Elaine married Millay Hollister on November 22, 1939 at her grandfather's home in Elk City, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: Allen and Connie. Elaine and Millay raised their children on the Hollister family farm, then in Elkhorn when they moved in 1964. Elaine was first and foremost a wife and mother and in later years she worked at the school cafeteria and in the office at Boys Town. She enjoyed going to dances and on family fishing trips but most of all she enjoyed the companionship of her 60 plus friends and their regular coffee get-togethers. Elaine and Millay spent many hours driving the countryside enjoying the sights.
During the last 2 ˝ years, Elaine has lived near her daughter in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Elaine passed away on January 27, 2006 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 23 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Luis and Marie, her husband Millay and daughter-in-law Karen. Life Legacy
Memorial services for Gary Gottsch, age 65, of Creighton, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Southview Bible Church at 2007 South 7th Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Pastor Jason Rosas will officiate. Family graveside service will be at German Cemetery in Bennington, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, with a 6:00 p.m. Funeral service.
Gary died Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his residence.
Gary Allen Gottsch, son of LeRoy and Erma (Ellerbruch) Gottsch, was born February 14, 1950, at Omaha, Nebraska. Gary attended South High School and graduated in 1968. Gary served in the National Guard from 1969 until 1976. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Everts on September 19, 1969, in Omaha. Four children were born to them: Robert, Jason, Ryan, and Janelle.
Gary and Marilyn lived in Omaha until 1999. He worked as an auto mechanic before he joined the Omaha Fire Department in 1973. Gary served in the department until 2000, achieving the rank of Captain before retiring. He and Marilyn moved to Oakland, Nebraska where he managed the Golf Club from 1999 until 2006. They then moved to Creighton, Nebraska where Gary was employed by the City of Creighton from 2008 until 2015. Gary was a member of Creighton Bible Church. Gary enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his fifteen grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marilyn Joan; son, Robert and wife Angela, and their children, Peter, Benjamin, Noah, and Eleanor; son, Jason and wife Parvin, and their son, James; son, Ryan and wife Olivia, and their children, John, William, Max, Lucy, and Rosemary; daughter, Janelle and husband Eric Fuchtman, and their children, Ethan, Johanna, Jorgia, Jenna, and Elliot; sisters, Leare Wheeler, Judy Everts, and Carol Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gerald.

Opal Mylet Gottsch was born March 12, 1919, at Kennard to Arthur Gottsch Sr. and Mary ( Huber ) Gottsch. She graduated from Kennard High School. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Gilbert Stork in Bennington. They lived in rural Blair. She moved to Blair in 1996 after the death of Mr. Stork in November of 1995. She was a longtime employee of Western Electric and Control Data. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four sons, Gordon Stork and Greg Stork of Omaha, Gary Stork of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gerald Stork of Westminster, Colo.; two daughters, Vanessa Brown of Arlington and Angela Hensen of El Dorado, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 4 great - grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Christopherson of Omaha and Betty Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five brothers, Arthur Gottsch, Jr., of Mead, Pat, Bob, Sr., Virgil and Lyle Gottsch, all of Elkhorn; one sister - in - law, Norma Jean Stork of Blair; and one brother - in - law, Wilfred Stork of Kingman, Ariz.

Anita Katherine Gottsch, 92, of Wahoo died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo.
She was born July 16, 1923, in Snyder to Herman and Matilda (Kroenke) Klintworth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Gottsch; parents, Herman and Matilda Klintworth; brothers, Vern, Willard and Londo Klintworth; and sisters, Vera Andresen and Orean Kanger.
She is survived by her children, Rodney (Daylene) Gottsch of Winter Haven, Fla., Rob Gottsch of Wahoo and Susan (Tom) Schulte of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Jeremy and Jason Gottsch, Dillon, Derek, and Jessi Schulte, and Jenna (Matt) Marquis; three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Ellie Sue and Kirra; sister, Arlene (Denis) Walter of Fremont; brother, Merlin (Margie) Klintworth of Elkhorn; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wahoo. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in Mead.

Bernard G. "Pat" Gottsch, age 89, of Elkhorn, died 10/7/14. Pat grew up and resided in the Elkhorn area where he farmed and had a feedlot operation. One of his passions was baseball. While serving in WWII, Pat played in the first European World Series. After his return home, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He then returned to Elkhorn, but remained active in baseball, serving as coach at the Milwaukee Braves baseball school in Rushville, NE, and coaching the Elkhorn Legion Baseball teams for many years. But perhaps one of the things he was most proud of was that he was the Marble Champion of Washington County. Pat was preceded in death by parents Arthur & Mary, wife Gloria, and daughter Patricia. Survived by wife Charlotte, sons: Patrick Jr. (Angie Good), Mickey (Julie Vodicka), daughters: Toni (Tom) Korpela, Tammy (Al) Hill, Terri Gottsch (Dan Murphy), 13 grandchildren: Chuck Trofholz, Danielle Falcone, Raquel Gottsch, Andrea Nied, Sara Petrovich, Gatsby Solheim, T.J. Note: Robert and Lois worked together in raising their four children and building a Cattle Feeding and Farming Company. Starting with nothing but a lot of hard work and sweat, the feeding company known as, "Gottsch Feeding Corporation" grew to be the 12 largest feeding company in the country and the largest in the state of Nebraska. Bob was known to many of the people in the industry of cattle feeding as having an uncanny ability to see the future. He always had fat cattle available when no one else did and always seemed to know when not to have to many because the market was going to be weak. All of his sons stayed with him and now run the feeding business and several new entities that have been started over the years. Both Robert and Lois still live in the Elkhorn area.
Funeral Obituary July 3, 2002
Robert Glenn Gottsch was born on September 10, 1926 in Bennington, Nebraska to Arthur and Mary (Huber) Gottsch. Bob grew up with his four brothers and three sisters on a farm south of Kennard, Nebraska. The family moved from Kennard to Irvington, Nebraska and Bob finished grade school at Wranch School. The Gottsch's then moved to Hoe Hill near Elkhorn with all of their family possessions on a hayrack. As a young man, Bob enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. Bob graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1944.
After High School Bob joined the Army in 1945 and spent time in Breverhaven, Germany with the 382nd Military Police Battalion. Bob was present at the Nuremberg trials. His Battalion allowed for recreation time for the soldiers and Bob participated in basketball (leading scorer), baseball and football. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in the military police on July 6, 1948. After returning home from the service, Bob attended the University of Nebraska for one semester, where he earned a letter in Basketball as a freshman. He then decided it was time to go to work. He went into business with his brother Pat in Gottsch Brothers Oil and Feed. After 4 years, he leased a feed yard southwest of Elkhorn and after 2 years he purchased the feed yard.
Bob married Lois Anne Ruff on April 19, 1952 in Papillion, Nebraska and to this union four sons were born: Robett Louis, William Leon, Brett Arthur and Barry Richard. Bob and Lois raised their four boys in Elkhorn while they were building their business into what it is today. During the time Bob and Lois were raising their four boys, they had another young man join the family - Larry Christiansen moved in with them in 1957 when he was 9 years old and became another son. A nephew, Mike Gottsch moved in with the family in 1974 and lived and worked with the family through 1978.
Bob loved baseball, football, basketball, tennis and golf. His favorite food was apple pie. He loved having fun, working and anything competitive. Bob has a special love and tenderness for his grandchildren.
Bob passed away on Friday June 28, 2002 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was preceded in death by his parants and one sister. Bob is survived by Lois Gottsch of Elkhorn, his sons and daughters-in-law Robert L. and Cindy of Hastings, Nebraska, William and Carrie of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Brett and Stacy of Elkhorn, Nebraska and Berry of Gretna, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Arthur and Anita of Mead, Nebraksa, Pat and Charlotte of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Virgil and Judy of Elkhornm Nebraska and Barney and Carrie of Elkhorn, Nebraska; sisters and brother-in-law Rosemary Christopherson of Omaha, Nebraska and Betty and Bill Travis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lois Ann Ruff Gottsch was born on May 12, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Louis and Anna (Koke) Ruff. She grew up on a farm near 192nd and Q Streets and she attended grade school at Sunnyslope Country School and graduated from Gretna High School in 1947. As a young girl, Lois enjoyed riding horses especially the Four Abreast Cloverleaf Barrel competition. After high school, Lois worked at the Millard Bank before returning to Business College.
Lois married Robert Gottsch on April 19, 1952 at the Papillion Methodist Church in Papillion, Nebraska and to this union four sons were born: Robert, Jr, William, Brett and Barry. Lois and Bob raised their family in the Elkhorn area.
After college, Lois worked for Travellers Insurance in Omaha and after her marriage she managed the accounting for the family business. Lois loved quilting and teaching others to quilt. She was involved in the start up of the Cottonwood Quilters and served as president of the Omaha and State of Nebraska Quilters Guild. Lois is remembered as kind, humble, patient, elegant and classy. She loved her family and always welcomed others into her home no matter what the conditions. Lois always had a kitchen full to feed, not only did she have her four boys and Bob to feed and care for, there was always friends, coworkers or cousins to feed, house and clean up. Lois loved taking care of everyone. It was through the tender care of her daughter-in-law Carrie that Lois final years remained comfortable.
Lois passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at her home in Elkhorn after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease at the age of 80 years7 months and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Anna and Bob. Lois is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Robert L. Betty Jean Travis was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Bennington, Neb., the beloved daughter of Arthur and Mary Gottsch. She was united in marriage to William Dean Travis on June 2, 1950, in Omaha, Neb. She was an active golfer at the Elmcrest Country Club for many years and won several ladies golf championships. She also had played in many state women's golf tournaments.
She was also involved with a bridge club, and was an avid reader. She was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Betty will forever be remembered as a person of great character, integrity and honesty, and she was greatly dedicated to her husband, sons and two granddaughters.

Gottsch, 50 years
Charles and Deloris Gottsch of Loveland, Colo., celebrated their 50th anniversary on March 19, 2005. A luncheon was held on Sunday, March 20, for family and friends.
The former Deloris Jean Gray and Charles Gottsch were married on Saturday, March 19, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington, Neb. Both graduated from Bennington High School: Charles in 1952, and Deloris in 1954. Charles attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., from 1952 to 1954.
The couple have one son, Steven Gottsch of Fort Collins, Colo.
Charles retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a district traffic agent after 35 years and currently works part-time for Ace Hardware in Loveland.

Deloris Jean Gottsch, 79, of Loveland passed away on April 7, 2015 after many months in nursing and rehabilitation. Deloris was born on January 27, 1936 at her family home in Nodaway, IA to Clyde and Chassie Williams, who passed away in 1940. Deloris was later adopted by Gilbert E. and Faye Gray. She graduated from Bennington High School. Deloris married Charles T. Gottsch on March 19, 1955 in Bennington, NE. They lived in Omaha/Bennington from 1955 to 1970, Idaho Falls, ID from 1970 to 1976, Salinas, CA from 1976 to 1995 and then moved to Colorado in 1995.
Deloris worked at Father Flannigans Boys Town for several years as well as Dr. J. Tanner, and Parker Pen, all in Nebraska. She also worked for Crystal House and Janette Lingerie in California. She was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Loveland. She loved playing bunko and cards. Deloris loved to cook.
Deloris is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles T. Gottsch of Loveland; son Steven C. Gottsch of Loveland; brother Don (Nancy) Williams of Des Moines, IA; step brothers Fred (Jehna) Gray and Duane (Debbie) Gray both of Loveland; sisters Dorothy Tucker of Stanton, NE, Darlene Mahan of Van Meter, IA; step sister Karen I. Gray of Norfolk, NE; and a very special niece, Denise E. (Don) Ross of Elgin, AZ. She is preceded by her parents; one son; one brother; three brother in laws and her adopted parents.
Cremation has been conducted. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 20, 2015 at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Loveland, followed by a light luncheon in the Fellowship Hall. Ex-Norfolkan dies at age 52, Services are pending for Max Witt of Littleton, Colo., who died Saturday of a massive heart attack. Witt was participating in a bike ride with Kiwanians from Littleton to Denver when he was stricken. Witt, 52 was a graduate of Norfolk High School.
Rites planned in Colorado for Max Witt 53. Nov. 1, 1990 Service will be conducted Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Littleton, Colo., for a former Norfolkan, Max Witt, 53. He died of a heart attack Oct. 27 while on a Littleton Denver bicycle ride with the Littleton Kiwanis Club. Witt, who was president of Century Graphics Printing Company in Littleton, was a 1955 graduate of Norfolk High School and attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He was president of the Littleton Kiwanis Club. He was in Norfolk over the Labor Day weekend to attend his high school class reunion. His wife is the former Sharon Schreiner, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ora Schreiner of Perry Park, Colo., formerly of Norfolk. Besides his wife, he is survived by five children, Doug, Tim, Heidi, Brad, and Max II, all of Littleton, Colo,; three granddaughters; and his parents, Harry and Carolyn Witt of Randolph, formerly of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by one sister, Janelle.

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Robert "Bob" Clark Gottsch, age 63, was born April 14, 1941 near Dacoma, Oklahoma to Lester and Dorothy (Mizar) Gottsch. He passed away Friday morning following a courageous battle with lung cancer at his home in rural Newcastle, Wyoming. Bob was raised on his grandfather's homestead farm close to Dacoma, Oklahoma and graduated from Dacoma High School in 1959.
On October 12, 1962 he married Claudia Prouty Coleman in Dacoma. They moved to Newcastle, Wyoming in the summer of 1968 where they have made their home since. He worked in the timber industry when they first moved to Newcastle before working at the Weston County COOP. He then went to work in the oil field beginning with Osage Hot Oil Company and then moving on to help build Western Production Company which is now Black Hills Exploration and Production.
Upon retiring in the early 90's from the oil field due to ill health, he tried his hand at ranching where he got to reconnect with his love of working the land and his cattle. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and trap shooting for several years. His love was in building all kinds of things with his machining equipment including boats and guns from scratch for his sons and his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia, Newcastle, WY; mother, Dorothy Egner, Bennett, CO; four sons: Mark (Mischelle), Littleton, CO; Marty (Melanie), Littleton, CO; Bob II (Stacie), Casper, WY; and Henry (Shelly), Seattle, WA; five grandchildren: Kristie, Greg, and Andrew Gottsch, Littleton, CO; Tawney Saunders, Littleton, CO; and William Gottsch, Casper, WY; a sister Ann (Monte) Simons, Bennett, CO and their family. He is also survived by his cousin Eugene Mahoney and his family, Newcastle, WY. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Lester; and one son Derrell, in 1981.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 14, at the Worden Funeral Chapel in Newcastle, WY. Services will be Monday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Worden Funeral Chapel with Rev. Norm Brotzman officiating. A memorial has been established to the 4-H Shooting Sports, or contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Russell Duane Wilt was born April 3, 1933 in Alva, Oklahoma to Isaac Peter and Irma May (Hofen) Wilt. He grew up and received his education in several different communities. He finished his high school in Adair and went on to North Eastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, earning his Associates degree from there. He completed his bachelors of Science Degree from North Eastern State University in Tahlequah. Russell also served his country in the United States Army, stationed as a medic at Tripler Hospital located in Honolulu, Hawaii Territory. He was an expert marksman.
Russell married Ramona Odell Henry on December 30, 1958 in a Miami, Oklahoma ceremony. The couple made Claremore home while Russell worked for the United States Postal Service in Tulsa.
Hobbies were hunting and fishing, tinkering, listening to music and creating something wonderful out of what most people called junk. He was a member of the Tulsa Rock & Mineral Society, Tulsa Genealogical Society, Rogers County Genealogical Society, lifetime member of the NRA, and had his life time hunting and fishing license with the state of Oklahoma. Russell served as a steward in the American Postal Workers Union for several years. He rode over 150k miles on his Moto Guzzi motorcycle . Russell was an avid genealogist and spent many hours researching his family history. He was a collector of interesting things, loved a good joke, was a man of great integrity and independence. He loved his family deeply.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ramona. Those family members that survive include his daughter Anita Wilt Collins and husband Guy; his grandchildren Sean Collins, Erin Collins and Brendan Collins all of Plymouth Minnesota.

Lorraine Vivian Larrick, 86, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010, at home with her family. She was born March 30, 1924, near Pollock, Missouri, a daughter of the late Riley and Ethel (Fanning) Pierson. She attended Wolfe School, near Pollock, Missouri. On May 25, 1945, Lorraine was united in marriage in Guymon, Oklahoma, to John Marvin Larrick, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2000.
Lorraine was a homemaker, and was a lifelong Methodist.
She is survived by one son: John Larrick of Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter: Judy Marshall of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister: Lola Reger of Silvis, Illinois; one brother: Kenneth Pierson of Baltimore, Maryland; four grandchildren: Jeremy Marshall, John Larrick, Amy Larrick, David Larrick; and seven great-grandchildren.

Clinton Alvan Wilt was born June 6, 1925 at Dacoma, Oklahoma, son of Henry and Marguerite (Mantz) Wilt. He graduated from Enid High School.
On October 20, 1943, he was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served his country during World War II as a Private First Class, being stationed in the South Pacific area from January to August in 1944. On June 15, 1944 he was wounded During the Battle of Saipan, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was Honorably Discharged on February 7, 1945 at Norman, Oklahoma.
On December 28, 1955, Clinton was united in marriage with Helen Butz at Anthony, Kansas. To this union twins were born: David and Diane.
After being in the US Marines and getting married, Clinton furthered his education at Kansas State Teacher's College at Pittsburg, graduating in 1960 with a Masters Degree. He continued his education even further, being just eight hours shy of a PHD.
Clinton taught math, chemistry and physics at the Anthony and Caldwell schools, prior to teaching at Manchester. He was the Principal of Manchester Grade School the year the school was closed. After that, he began working as an electrician and plumber until he retired fully.
Clinton was a member of the First Christian Church of Anthony, the American Legion, and the DAV. On March 14, 2008, Clinton passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center in Anthony, Kansas at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his father. Henry Wilt; his mother, Marguerite Wilt Cline; and his daughter, Diane Pape.
Clinton will be deeply missed by his wife, Helen of the home in Anthony; his son. Dr. David Wilt and wife Elizabeth of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Garrett Wilt, Alyssa Wilt, Jessica (Pape) Kinzer and husband John, and Joshua Pape and wife Jessica; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

Daryl Dean Misfeldt was born September 4,1932 in Washington, Nebraska to George and Verna (Knudsen) Misfeldt. Daryl grew up in both the Washington and Omaha areas, and attended school in Washington, and Walnut Hill in Omaha. Daryl graduated from Bennington High School in 1949. As a young boy, Daryl enjoyed hunting and sang in high school.
Daryl served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War from December 1949 until his honorable discharge in December 1952.
Daryl married Rayma Lee Robinette on September 12, 1953 at St. John's! Lutheran Church in Bennington, and to this union, three sons were born; Mark, David, and Christopher. The family settled in Washington, and remained there to this day in the home that Daryl built himself.
Daryl worked for many years as a computer systems manager for United of Omaha and later Mutual of Omaha. Daryl was very creative and hard working. He was constantly working on inventing new or better machinery. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and reading. In his younger days, Daryl and Rayma would do a bit of traveling. In the last few years, Daryl spent his time sharing stories with his grandchildren.
Daryl passed away at his home on his 76th birthday, September 4, 2008. He is preceeded in death by his wife Rayma. Daryl is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law; Mark and Debbie, David and Sarah, and Christopher and Janie all of Washington, seven grandchildren; Angie, Hannah, Molly, Abby, George, Katie, and Ellie, sister and brother-in-law LeMara and Artie Eicke of Washington, stepmother Marjorie Misfeldt of Fremont, Nebraska, nieces, nephews, and other family.

Most of this information came from family members.
Fritz Misfeldt came to the United States in 1861 as a very young man, settling in Scott County, Iowa. The countryside is very much like the area in Germany, so you will find many people from Germany settling first in Scott County.
Fritz an Bertha Horst were married in Scott County and three of their children were born there. They came to Nebraska, and for a short time lived in Sarpy County, the second county south of Washington County. Anna was born in Nebraska, about 1875 and two years later a daughter, Margaretha, was born, but she only lived a couple of weeks. She is buried in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. A year later Otto was born, on Christmas Day. I would guess that Bertha developed pneumonia, as she died just six weeks after Otto was born.
While Bertha was sick and probably shortly after, Otto was wet nursed by a Mrs. Soll, as she just had a baby too. Fritz found himself alone to raise 5 children, the oldest Henry (my grandfather) age 11 down to baby Otto, age 6 weeks. It must have been a very hard job. You can see by the 1880 Census, John was listed as a boarder at the the Henry Puls home. He probably helped with chores also.
Fritz chose to let Otto be raised (or adopted) by the Asmus Asmussen family, they had no other children. I'm sure things were still hard and so Anna was to live with the Claus Schlopkohl family, again maybe to help out with chores or possibly there was a family connection, as the Soll name appears again. It was also said that Anna and Fritz's second wife, Elizabeth did not get along. I do not know who fathered Anna's first baby, William, but about a year later, she and Julius were married. They moved to the Creighton, Nebraska area and I don't really know much more about the family. Henry married Adele Gottsch, had one son, Charles, lost a baby girl and then Adele died in childbirth. He later married Margaret Gottsch, Adele's sister. They lived west of Washington, Nebraska and had eight children. John Misfeldt married Tina Petersen, lived just north of Bennington, but died as a young man. They had no children. Metha Misfeldt married Henry Arp. They lived north of Washington, Nebraska. They had six children. Otto married and had one son, they lived in the Fort Calhoun area.
Most of the family were farmers and stayed in this general area of Nebraska. Quite a few of the children are buried in the German Cemetery, north of Bennington. Fritz and Elizabeth are buried in the Kennard, Nebraska Cemetery.

Funeral services for Edwin Theodore Jipp, 88 of Blair, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday October 31 at Blair Congregational United Church. Lunch will follow services. Interment will be in the Ft. Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday October 30 at Campbell Aman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Edwin died on Monday October 27 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair.
Ed was born May 12, 1926, in Dannebrog, NE, to Dr. Edwin T. Jipp and Helen (Rohwer) Jipp, where his father practiced dentistry. While Ed was still an infant, the family moved to Blair where Dr. Jipp continued his practice. In 1944, Ed graduated from Blair High School and by then World War II had begun. He was inducted into the Army in September of 1944. He served in M Company of the 108th Infantry Regiment 40th division. His unit received a bronze star for making a landing on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines, along with the Philippines liberation ribbon. He also served a year in Korea.
Returning home he attended Dana College for one year, then graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, earning a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering in May 1950.
Following graduation, Ed and Philip Larsen developed a business partnership Larsen & Jipp Construction Co., first building homes and then commercial buildings. On August 27, 1955, Ed married Shirley Baker of Omaha (formerly of Ericson, NE). To this union three children were born, Ellen Sue, Paul Edwin and Martin Baker.
In 1977 Ed and Shirley formed their own corporation Ed Jipp Construction Co. to specialize in sewage and water treatment plants in Nebraska and Iowa. Ed was a member of the Blair Congregational United Church of Christ, a member of the Blair Rotary Club for many years, and the Blair Historic Preservation Alliance. Ed was always interested and involved in community goals. His latest project was helping to restore the Blair train depot, now known as Depot in the Park.
His hobbies were tinkering with old cars, photography, gardening and the planting of trees and bushes. Ed is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Ellen Sue (Mark) McGovern of Omaha, sons Paul Jipp of Blair and Martin (Debra) Jipp of Paris, ILL; grandchildren Natalie, Mary and Jack McGovern of Omaha, and Sidney and Morgan Jipp of Paris ILL.

Tragedy stalked Omaha-area roads and highways Monday night, claiming six lives between 7 p.m. and early Tuesday morning.
Four persons, including a Millard assistant principal and a teacher, died in a head-on crash about a half-mile east of Ashland, Neb. about 7 p.m. Monday.
The two-car crash near Ashland claimed three of four Millard area people who had been close fiends and were en route to a University of Nebraska-Lincoln basketball game. The car in which they were riding was involved in a crash on Highway 6 with one driven by Loran Estabrooks of near Ashland.
The dead include Estabrooks, 70, a retired salesman who lived in a subdivision east of Ashland; Lyle Buell, 46, of 939 Eldorado Drive, assistant principal at Millard's Level 1 High School; Louis Jipp, 47 of 1446 S. 167th St., an engineer at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., and his wife, Lois, 44, a Millard elementary school teacher. Buell's wife, Sue, 44 remained in critical condition Tuesday morning at an Omaha hospital.

NEWPORT NEWS - Howard Gordon Maahs, 67, died July 2, 2006 at 5 p.m. surrounded by his family at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond after a nine-year battle against an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif. on May 16, 1939, Dr. Maahs was the son of the late Willis George Maahs and Katherine Louise Melvin Maahs. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Carol Maahs. He is survived by his wife, Dola Jean Haracivet Young Maahs; his brother, Robert Willis Maahs of Hortonville, Wis. and four children, Kendra Louise Lacy and her husband, Chris Lacy of Woodbridge, Va., Jennifer Paige Zettler and her husband, Chris Zettler of Oakton, Va., Cynthia Jean Morath and her husband, Ray Morath of Reston, Va., and Gordon Lewis Maahs of Washington, D.C., and by his two step-daughters, D. Leslie Young of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Kelly Elizabeth Young of Alexandria, Va. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Loretta Lacy, Susanna Lacy and Annabel Lacy; plus many cousins, nieces and very dear friends. He was above all a devoted family man, kind and caring of others, to family and non-family alike.
He was raised in Los Angeles until, at age 16, he entered Stanford University where he received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. Thereafter he earned his Ph.D., also in Chemical Engineering, from the University of Washington, Seattle, Wash., where he met and married his first wife, Carol Larson, mother of his five children. In 1964, he relocated to the Peninsula to take a position as a research engineer with NASA-Langley Research Center. After 35 years with NASA, he retired in 1999 as a branch head for advanced materials development.
He attended Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church and various other churches in his continual search for religious understanding and spiritual fulfillment. Special interests included religious thought and natural philosophy, fine art, music (self-taught in five instruments), travel, skiing and genealogy. His most recent passion was that of documenting the lives and times of all his European ancestors before and after they immigrated to America.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday, July 5 at Altmeyer Funeral Home in Denbigh. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Thursday, July 6 at the same location. Burial will be at Peninsula Memorial Park directly following the service. The family extends thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Medical College of Virginia for their compassionate and superior service. Special thanks to those in the ICU and the Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation or other organizations that aid in the search for a cure for prostate cancer. William Dean Hudson, born September 5, 1951 in Algona, Iowa, crossed over peacefully from lung cancer at the age of sixty-five on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-two years, Kathleen, his mother, Dorris Asa, siblings: Thomas Hudson, Jayne German and Holly Stange. Niece and nephews: Matthew Duncan, Joshua Duncan, Jocelyn Stange and Dayton Stange as well as a great niece and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and friend, Fred R. Hudson.
Bill spent his school years in Omaha, Nebraska. He was active in R.O. T. C. at Benson High School reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. This is where Kathy, age fifteen, and Bill, age 16 were introduced by mutual friends. They attended the Military Ball each year and Bill lettered in rifle team his senior year.
They both enjoyed music and Bill would occasionally bring out his guitar and play a tune. He even taught himself to play a twelve string guitar. Kathy enjoyed hearing him play and sing folk songs such as Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary.
He was nominated as sixth alternate candidate for appointment to the United States Military Academy. After high school graduation in 1970, Bill enlisted in the Army serving for three years and was stationed in Germany with time also spent in Vietnam which he rarely discussed. He was Honorably Discharged as SP4 which today is roughly equivalent to corporal.
In 1974, Bill and Kathy married and they began their lives together in the Ozarks. Bill attended College of the Ozarks while also assisting his father, Fred, with getting the Zebulon Pike Excursion boat up and running on Table Rock Lake.
The business ran from 1976-1980 and was the main reason for their move to Branson. Bill received his fifty ton license from the Branson Corps of Engineers and was First Mate to Captain Fred.
Bill graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and a minor in Political Science in 1981. For over thirty years, he worked at various motels in Branson as night auditor.
Bill had many interests over the years. He pursued learning the martial arts of Tae Kwon Do in 1983- reaching the status of Second Degree Black belt after four years of training. He was entrusted by Master Kim, the Branson Satellite School, teaching area students martial arts for several years.
Bill was a quiet, proud man who loved animals. On more than one occasion, he would say he loved animals more than humans especially if he encountered a rude customer at work. Three of these beloved animals were Tosh, Tavi and Mandy which he fondly called his kids. Mandy was abandoned so Bill brought her home from work and she never left his side. He cherished their sweet kisses and they loved to lie near or ON him when possible. After they passed, he saved their dog dishes, tags and toys. He loved them so much, he requested that their ashes be buried with him. That wish will be fulfilled.
Sugar cookies, plain cake donuts and Cheetos he would eat on a regular basis and never ever gain a pound. He drank three cups of instant coffee every morning and Kathy knew that if she wanted him to remember something she told him, to wait till cup number three.
Whenever he could, he would wear his specially sewn Snuggie. They were footed sleepers that were soft, warm and comfortable.
When one thinks of Bill, you may picture him wearing his black cap, his pocket watch or smoking his pipe smelling the vanilla aroma. Kathy decided to add these items to his casket arrangement. The purple lilacs were his favorite flower and he loved the springtime when the lilac bushes along the driveway bloomed bringing him fond memories of the ones near his childhood home.
Bill had a strong work ethic and took pride in everything he did. He was meticulous in details, had beautiful penmanship and rarely missed a day of work. Due to health reasons, Bill retired less than two months ago and even then, he was hesitant not wanting to cause any hardships on his co-workers.
Daily, Bill would watch new casts and discuss the days events and politics. You could definitely tell he was a Democrat. He enjoyed science fiction movies and history books, particularly of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was one of his favorite historical figures.
Some people may say Bill was old school as he did not have a cell phone or a Kindle but loved to read hard back books and the newspapers. He would cut articles of interest from the newspaper and put them in a marked folder. He was also sentimental saving all the cards and notes Kathy had given him.
In 1999, Bill rekindled a childhood memory and started collecting vintage GI Joe figures. Heaven forbid, you called them dolls and if so, were politely corrected to say, action figures.
Bill and Kathy attended several GI Joe Conventions around the United States turning them into special vacations. Those who had the privilege of viewing his special room that housed his GI Joe collection were surprised as he knew about all the accessories, history behind each figure and displayed them accordingly. It was his request that some of his collection be given or sold to a Toy Museum for others to enjoy.
During the holiday season, Bill enjoyed putting up lights on the house and shrubs. He spent many hours putting up light clips and setting the lights to his satisfaction. Perhaps you were fortunate enough to have driven by the house at one time or another when the lights were turned on. It was his Christmas gift to the neighborhood. Sadly, that was not completed this year due to his illness.
Bill was a devoted husband to Kathy and very protective of her. Whenever she would go somewhere, he would tell her, "Come home to me." Not a day went by that they didn't kiss and tell each other they loved one another. He gave her the pet name, Poo. They were high school sweethearts who remained deeply in love and best friends. It was as if they were destined to be together in this life and the next.
We honor Bill remembering him in our own way. It is said people come into our lives for a reason, season or lifetime. How did Bill come into your life? Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at Rivermonte, 4500 S. Love Pine Ave, Springfield, MO at 11:00 followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood, Springfield, MO after a brief Honor's Service in the Veterans Chapel at 2:00 p.m.

Helen M. Rickett, 74, of Sutherland, Iowa, formerly of the Sioux City area, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sutherland United Methodist Church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial of the cremated ashes will be in Cherokee (IA) Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Kendall Rickett in Sutherland. Arrangements are under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa.

Shirley (Stokes) Prunchunas October 10, 1933 - February 24, 2011
Shirley Jean Prunchunas, the daughter of Leroy and Irma Fae (Cipperly) Goettsch was born October 10, 1933, in Holstein, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Cushing, Holstein, and Quimby where she attended school.
On August of 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Harold L. Stokes. They resided in Sioux City for 20 years with their six children.
Throughout her life she worked as a CNA, dental assistant, and in the hospitality field. She also enjoyed driving people to their appointments and helping them with their errands.
Shirley moved to Omaha, NE with three of her children and was remarried to John Prunchunas in 1976. She enjoyed cooking, collecting antiques, crafts, gardening, fishing, rock collecting, and traveling, which she visited Hawaii, Africa, and road trips across the U.S. Most of all, she enjoyed being around her family, especially her grandchildren.
On February 24, 2011, Shirley passed away at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee at the age of 77. She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Irma Goettsch; two sisters, Lauren in infancy and Helen; and one brother Leroy Goettsch.
Shirley is survived by her six children: Gary Stokes of Sioux City, IA, Cynthia Young of Sutherland, IA, Linda Heath of Port Orange, FL, Perry Stokes of Sioux City, IA, Larry Stokes of Sutherland, IA, and Dawn Burkhart and her husband Mike of Cherokee; one sister, Darlene Sands and her husband John of Moville, IA; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Dixie Lee Anderson was born March 20, 1938, in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer Russ and Lorretta Etta (Goettsch) Freese. She grew up in the Holstein, Iowa, area where she attended elementary school and graduated from Holstein High School with the class of 1955.

Stanley Sinclair Reichman was born in Chappell, Nebr. on Nov. 27, 1921 to Yost Henry and Ida Auguste (Wussow) Reichman. He was the youngest of eight children. Stanley attended the Chappell Grade School and the Deuel County High School in Chappell. He was active in the sports programs of the schools, namely football and basketball. During the summers, he helped several of his brothers with their farm work.
After graduation from high school in 1939, he was employed at Bill's Ranch Market in Los Angeles, Calif., staying with his brother, Ralph and his family. That fall, he enrolled in the St. Paul Business College at St. Paul, Nebr. He went back for a second year, but World War II had started, and he took the civil service examination, passed it, and went to Washington, D.C. to work in the Agriculture Department. After about a year there, he enlisted in the Navy Air Corp. in Sept. 1942. Later, he transferred to the Army Air Corp and served as a tail gunner in a B-26 during World War II. He was stationed in England, Italy and France.
After completing 37 bombing missions, he was to be sent to Japan, via the United States. The war ended while he was in the States, so he, along with thousands of other 'soldier boys' were mustered out of the service. He received his discharge in Sept. 1945. On learning that the war was over in Europe and Japan, Stanley and Muriel were married Aug. 22, 1945. They spent their honeymoon in Santa Ana, Calif., waiting for Stanley's discharge from the Army Air Corp.
Muriel Vernin Woolery was born Jan. 3, 1925 on a farm between Oshkosh and Lisco, Nebr. to Jospeh Percy and Ruth Helen Marie (Sothman) Woolery. Muriel started to school in Lewellen, Nebr., staying with Uncle John and Aunt Mildred (Woolery) Frates. She continued her education at a country school near her home, District 64, graduating at age 12. Her parents thought she was too young for high school, so kept her at home for a year. She attended Garden County High School, and graduated in 1942. There was an opening at the County Clerk's Office in Garden County, and she started working there a month before graduation. She was also employed at the First National Bank of Lewellen, Nebr., and was with the War Department as a payroll clerk at the time of her marriage.
Stanley and Muriel set up housekeeping on a family farm 12 1/2 miles southwest of Oshkosh, Nebr., where they resided until 1969. At that time, they purchased the motel, now known as the Shady Rest Motel in Oshkosh , Nebr., and moved to town. After completely remodeling the motel inside and out, they opened for business in May 1969. They also started a Telephone Answering Service in conjunction with the motel. The motel was sold in 1973, and Stanley and Muriel moved back to the farm.
In March 1977, they purchased a home in Scottsdale, Ariz., spent the winter of 1977-78 there and decided to make it their permanent home. The farm was sold in May 1978 and after a farm sale in Aug. 1978, they moved to 5802 E. Cambridge Ave., Scottsdale, Ariz, 85257, where they still reside. Stanley and Muriel are the parents of two daughters, Linda Diane and Sharon Kaye.
Stanley's hobbies are his yard and watching sporting events on T.V. Muriel's hobbies are needlepoint and genealogy. Both enjoy golf, reading, family, friends and traveling.
Obituary
Long-time resident of Garden and Deuel counties, Stanley Sinclair Reichman, passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. He was 86 and had been in poor health for two years.
Stan's parents, Josef Heinrich ("Yost") and Ida Fredricka Augusta Wussow Reichmann were born in Germany and came Western, Saline Co., Nebraska at ages 20 and 3, respectively. They and six sons and one daughter migrated to the Kowanda community of Garden County in 1917. They bought land in this sparsely populated area to give their sons a good start in life. Yost and Ida retired to Chappell, Nebraska in 1921 where Stan was born on November 27. His only sister was nine years older and the nearest of his six brothers was 16 years older than he. Stan was an active young man playing football and basketball, hunting, fishing and trapping for pelts.
Stan graduated from Deuel County High School in 1939 and went on to St. Paul Business School in Nebraska that fall. He took the Civil Service Exam in 1940 when World War II broke out and was contacted by the War Department because of his typing accuracy. He moved to Washington DC where worked in the office of the Agriculture Department. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corp in September 1941 but soon transferred to the Army Air Corp, the forerunner of the Air Force. He served as a Tail Gunner, making 37 successful missions out of England, Italy and France. After the German surrender he returned home on leave, destined for Japan. With the unexpected Japanese surrender, he married Muriel Vernin Woolery on August 22, 1945. They spent their honeymoon in Santa Ana, California awaiting his discharge.
Stan's preferred profession was a finish carpenter. He had a job in Omaha but thousands of other soldiers were out of the service at the same time, making housing in short supply. So, he & Muriel returned to the south table in Garden County where he farmed and raised cattle for 32 years. In 1969, Stan and Muriel purchased the Trail Motor Lodge in Oshkosh which lies directly over the old Mormon Trail, renovated it as the Shady Rest Motel and operated it for 5 years before moving back to the farm. In 1978, Stan and Muriel retired in Scottsdale, Arizona. He soon became a roofing contractor where he sold and installed Conklin roof coating and cleaning products.
In Nebraska, Stan was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and bowler. He was a member of the Elks Club in Ogallala and enjoyed socializing, playing pool, pitch and bridge. He served on the Wheat Growers Association and District 6 School Board. He was always friendly, loved to visit and always had a joke to tell.
Stan and Muriel had two daughters, Linda Diane who married Paul Criswell and lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Sharon Kaye who married Ronald Keys and lives in Columbus, Mississippi. They had two grandsons, Jeffrey & Michael Criswell and families of Scottsdale, Arizona and two step grandchildren, Ronald Keys, Jr. of Palmdale, California and Renee and husband Richard Laitinen of Palmdale, California, and nine great grandchildren.
His parents, siblings and wife preceded him in death. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves to morn a brother-in-law, Joe Woolery of Oshkosh, a sister-in-law, Klaris O'Dell of St. Joseph, Missouri, a special niece, Wavalee McArtor and her family of Scottsdale, many other relatives and friends and a special friend, Ginny Labasso, of Scottsdale.
A brief memorial service was held for Stanley at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday, June 27, 2008. A memorial service will be held at the Chappell Cemetery in Nebraska in the summer of 2009 where his ashes will be laid to rest with those of his wife of 54 years.

I was born in a rock house built by my grandfather, six miles east of Lisco, Nebraska, May 6, 1929. I was the third child of five born to Joseph Percy Woolery and Ruth Helen Marie Sothman. As a child, I helped my parents with the usual chores, my main chore was gathering fuel for two wood stoves. My schooling was primary through eighth grade in a rural school, District #64, one mile from home. My next four years were in Garden County High in Oshkosh, Nebraska (which was voted one of a hundred best high schools in U.S.A.). After my children were grown to further my education I took several college courses.
In 1948 I was married to Paul Frances Xavier Gardiner - to this union were born four children. Regina Mary, January 25, 1949 - who married Tony Barsoti - had 2 daughters and one son. Rex Joseph - January 19, 1953, Wife Laura Bell. One daughter to this marriage. Anna Ruth - March 20, 1954 to this one son was born (marriage was never filed). Margaret Patrica - March 16, 1955 - who married John Richard Holmes - to this union was born one son and one daughter. In 1960, I married John David Yilek. (He died in 1979) to this union was born David Lee, who changed his name to Gardiner was born June 6, 1960 married Colleen Brodkrop and George Mathew - April 19, 1965. September 5, 1987 I married Roy A. Bookman --- On June 10, 1988 I was divorced and regained my maiden name. In the course of my married life I moved and lived in over 50 different homes and five different states - Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, California, and Vermont proving to be an education.

Joe was 9 years when he turned Dads brand new Model A John Deere tractor over into a 6-foot gulley. We had had 2 very large rains in a few days and the irrigation ditch that was a hundred feet north of the corral overflowed and washed this huge gulley down what was once the car trail in the pasture. Some time later when Dad had time, he and Joe were trying to fill up the gulley. Joe was driving the tractor & Dad was handling the "slip" to move the dirt back where it belonged. Joe tried to get as close to the edge of the gulley as he could (a little too daring I guess) and one time, the bank caved in under the wheel. As the tractor fell over into the gulley, Joe waited until he could jump onto the other bank and crawled on his hands and knees as fast as he could possibly move. He got away without a scratch but was scared --- more because he had rolled Dads brand new tractor into the ditch. He was sure he was really in for it now. But Dad -- of course didn't punish him. He was just thankful Joe wasn't crushed by the tractor as the wheel missed him by only a few inches as he started to crawl away. We were all thankful that Joe was small & quick!
Another story about Joe -- and this time Peggy was involved. Dad had purchased a good used Maytag motor for moms washing machine. Joe &/or Peggy thought they could take it apart and put it back together without Dad finding out, I guess. But they didn't get it back together. I think this is the hardest spanking any of us ever received. I know I was sure glad I wasn't involved in that mornings work.
I was pretty young when a neighbor brought us an orphan lamb. In the next year we took our small savings account (all 5 of us kids were involved) and bought more sheep. The think the largest our "herd" ever got was around 30. We sold the wool and occasionally a sheep.
As the older young entrepreneurs graduated from high school, they sold their interest to the remaining kids. One of our responsibilities was to take the sheep out to graze in preplanned areas. The hours that I spent herding sheep are innumerable --- and I was only one! We learned a lot about responsibilities and earning money because Dad was so generous with his time during the caving season and cold weather feeding. Also Dad gave us winter feed although I guess we did help him with various harvesting every year.
You know, come to think of it --- all of this! Dad was a great teacher. Work & responsibility! Patience and generosity! What a Dad! But I've always thought that about my Dad.
One of the first patients to have surgery in the new Oshkosh Hospital in January of 1935 was master Joseph Charles Woolery, age 2 years and 11 months. An emergency appendectomy was performed on a Tuesday at 6 a.m. His recovery time in the hospital bed (HA!) was 2 weeks with a walloping $35.00 bill from Doctor Petersen. Joe had complained to Mom most of Monday that he had a "rupture" like Muriel's (she had one at an early age and lived with it until after Sharon was born). Mom checked by phone with Dad who worked at the Production Credit Association (later called the A.S.C.S.). He thought Joe would probably be OK. Monday is wash day come rain or come shine! It was always a full days work to heat the water, wash, wring, rinse, wring and hug out tub after tub of clothes, sheets, towels etc. for a family of seven (not to mention, boiling the white clothes). Lunch was always simple. To encourage Joe to eat, Mom fixed his favorite --- egg sandwiches and cocoa but he only drank the cocoa after much coaxing. I remember he slept with Mom & Dad that night because he felt so sick. After he heaved up the cocoa at 2 A.M. all over the bed, they rushed him to the hospital where they did surgery as soon as the surgeon arrived. Joe's room had a big window where he could look into the street which helped entertain him.
My memory as a 4 year old --- we woke up to find Grandpa Dick (Dads father) cooking us breakfast. The 3 older girls had to go to school but I was too young so I was taken to stay with my Gram & Grandpa Sothman. This was a real treat --- to be able to stay with them alone for a few days (don't remember how long Mom stayed at the hospital with Joe). I also remember they gave me some "things" to give to Joe one day when we journeyed the 23 miles to Oshkosh to visit him. He received 2 small wooden roosters -- painted on either side and walnut half shells glued on both sides in place of wings and a stand to hold them upright. I was so proud to be able to take Joe something to help him get well.
Back to the sheep herding --- I usually enjoyed this time alone (I still enjoy my time alone). I lived many fantasies (movie star, great musician, etc.) during the hours I spent with our sheep and my dreams! But one of the greatest purposes at times might have been avoiding phone calls from a certain boyfriend who tried to talk to me 3 times each night. He phoned 3X each night between 5 and 7 p.m. -- no later as he worked at the movie theater & the show began at 7:30 p.m. You wonder why I never took his calls? Can you talk to your boyfriend when you're 16 years old & on a 18-party telephone line? But boy, he was faithful?
Our son Brad married a most delightful young lady named Barb. The produced a beautiful strawberry blonde baby girl in October 1976 (her uncle Kent's 20th birthday!) Years went by -- - and more years went by -- it began to look like Stephanie was going to be an only child. Finally, just a little after Steph's 9th birthday, Barb & Brad told us she was going to have a baby -- maybe on our anniversary! Later when Jay ask her "what happened" (meaning-- we didn't think you were going to have another child so what happened?) Barb replied so simply - - "whoops".

I lived in Julesburg, Colorado. My friend Fred Haney who lived in Lisco, Nebraska, while growing up brought me over to Lisco, to a dance one Saturday night. I met Klaris Woolery at the dance. We danced several dances, and got better acquainted as the evening grew. The next morning she came to Fred's folks house and we went out to her farm. I liked her family from the first. They were friendly and very nice to me. I met Joe [her brother] again. He was at the dance, too. I didn't have a car so I had to borrow Fred's to get over to Oshkosh from Julesburg or come with him when he came. Klaris and I dated quite a lot.
I was raised in Texas and my family had big Sunday dinners with a round table extended and lots of people. I remember Thanksgiving at the Woolery's just like at home. I met Charlie and Martha (sic) Sothman at that dinner. I liked both of them instantly.
My mother died in 1940 and this was 1946 or '47. So, I hadn't had a family except one aunt for several years. I had never been on a farm so I was pretty dumb about farm work. So I didn't help much with chores on Sunday, about the only days I was over there.
Klaris and I got married about 1 year after we met and moved to Ottawa, Kansas. My ex-boss called me in Kansas to come back to Julesburg to work. I asked Klaris if she could stand to live 32 miles from her folks. She was tickled to death. Our daughter Barbara was born in Julesburg. Percy & Ruth bought a new Chevrolet and made arrangements for us to buy their old car for the same price they got for it. So we had our first car, '44 Chev.
When Barb was barely old enough to talk, she couldn't say Sothman. She called Charlie & Martha (sic), Sock 'em. We moved back to Ottawa, Kans. and our two boys were born there. Ruth came down to see us one Christmas. Her hair was dyed green. I loved it. Truly an original thinking person. I thought it was great my mother-in-law had green hair. I liked it that Woolery's like to have fun.
My mother was sort of a swinger, too. Have a few drinks, have a good time. I never did drink but I didn't mind if other people lived it up. I played in dance bands all over the country. So I'd been in Ballrooms, bars, saloon dives, and slop shoots; so I'd seen party people up close. I never saw Percy or Ruth get out of line in any way from over indulgence.
When Klaris and I got married my boss in Kansas flew me and the bridesmaid to Grand Island in his plane. Sally Schmidt was the bridesmaid. We got a bus in G. I. to Chappell.
The day we got married, most of us were at Sothmans house except the bride. Everyone left the house but me (I was in bathroom) and were locking the door. I had to holler at them to let me out for my wedding. I lost my voice because of cigar smoke in the Woolery's car. I couldn't speak for about 2 or 3 days on our honeymoon.

Glenna Dean Woolery, 69, of Oshkosh, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Oshkosh with Pastor Ray Weinerman officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star #264 conducted rites at the church. Creamation followed the service and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Oshkosh City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Garden County Hospital or to the Order of the Eastern Star #264 in Oshkosh.

When I was between 2 and 3 years old, I remember being sick on a Monday. Mom always washed on Monday. Mom made egg sandwich and hot chocolate. I didn't want to eat but mom made me drink the hot chocolate. It came up about 2 a.m.
Mom said I had appendix attack. Dad wanted to take me to Alliance to have it taken out but mom said there was not time so I had them out in Oshkosh.
The next thing I remember was when I put beads in my ears. Dr. Snodgaass washed them out. I called him Snotnose.
One of the next things I remember was starting the old GP tractor. It got hot (no water in the radiator) and died. All that Dad said, was if you are going to start the tractor, put water in it.
This was in 1941. Peggy and I tried to overhaul a Maytag motor one time. We couldn't get the flywheel off, so we used a hammer on the end of the shaft. I got a whipping with the razor strap.
In the summer of 1945, Sally, Bub, Klaris and I all went into the hospital to have our tonsils out . But I had a cold, so I didn't. The next Christmas, I had them out. I went from 70 to 135 pounds in the next 18 months.
In 1949, I got my first car, a 1934 Chevy. In 1952, Uncle Sam said 'Greetings'. Sept. 9, I went to Denver by bus and train to Crowder, Mo. After tests and shots, we were off to Camp Chaffee, Ark. for 16 weeks of basic training. After that, I took an 8-week training in leadership. Easter Sunday saw me on the Gen. McAtter to Japan for 14 days. Our last meal on the ship was sandwiches. The meat was tainted. Did you ever try to put 50 men on one rail car with only one stool, who had diarrhea. What a mess! We spent 2 days processing and then on to Korea. The last week of July found me on the Gen. MacRaye (17 days) for home. I was discharged Aug. 21, 1954.
I returned to farming. In 1973, I purchased the Bowling Alley in Oshkosh, Nebr., and lost the lease on the building in 1978. Then I worked for Merrill West, delivering freight until he sold the business. For five years after that I worked for Byron Kemplin, painting. Dec. 16, 1983, I was hired by Marshalltown, where I am still employed.
I married Glenna Roudebush on May 28, 1958. We have three children, Susan, Lynn and Jon."

Obituary
Tony L. Gottsch, 34, of Bozeman, died Dec. 23, 2000, from injuries received from an ATV accident in Hyalite Canyon, south of Bozeman.
Tony was born July 10, 1966, at Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Illinois to Darold and Sharon Gottsch. At the age of 8 he moved with his family to Montana, which he has called home ever since. He attended grade school in Bozeman and graduated from Bozeman Senior High in 1985. After working various jobs around Bozeman, he began his career as a commercial fisherman in 1990, working for Alaska Fisheries out of Seattle and later for Tyson Seafood Company. He started out at the bottom, down in the fish factory, but after several years of hard work, long hours of studying and much determination, he advanced to engineer. At the time of his death he was employed on the Fishing Vessel Providian, homeported in Bath, Maine. Tony enjoyed the hard work and challenge of being out on the sea, but he loved even more spending his time off in the great outdoors of Montana, camping, fishing, hunting or just having fun with his friends, family and beloved dog, Lexus.
Grateful to have shared his life are his parents, Sharon and Richard Battle of Bozeman, Darold and Linda Gottsch of Tulare, Calif., his daughter Tonya and son Mike of Albuquerque, N.M., brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Donna Gottsch of Bozeman, sister and brother-in-law, Roxane and Keith Hagen of Casper, Wyo., brother Durand Gottsch of Bozeman, stepsister and brother-in-law, Marla and Bret Schroeder of Denver, Colo., stepsister Yvette Stovall of Spring Valley, Calif., stepsister and brother-in-law Johnnie and James Carpenter of Tulare, Calif., and stepbrother Gabe Terronez of Visalia, Calif.. He is also survived by his nephews; Tony Pitmon, Las Vegas, Bill Pitmon, Casper, Wyo. and Levi Gottsch, Bozeman. Nieces and nephews, Kristina, Misti and Amanda Gottsch, Bozeman. Step-nieces and nephews Madeline and Parker Schroeder, Denver, Colo., Savannah Soto and DeAndra Stovall, Spring Valley, Calif., Cheyenne, Autumn and Messiah Carpenter, Tulare, Calif., and Megan Terronez, Visalia, Calif.. His two very special friends, Lori Nunn, Belgrade and Patrick Crask, Bozeman, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.
We are so thankful to have shared Tony's life and his love. He was a very kind, gentle and caring man who made the most out of his life and inspired those around him. His memory will live forever in our hearts.
